Death on a dusty road

Photo
A dying Marine, on the road to Seoul. c9/50

Agony of last moments eased by morphine from Navy Corpsman

Richard Sharp, Marine

Having mounted out from San Diego only two months before, possibly driving a truck in the Reserves a month before that, this young man became one of 4,267 Marines killed in action in the brutal Korean War. Another 23,744 were wounded.

The only way to even begin to accept the loss of all these fine young men is to keep in mind that, because of their bravery and sacrifice so long ago, South Korea is free today.
