Manchurian Fever
Samichon valley '52 I believe! Apparently I took up smoking a pipeabout now, must have seen a senior British officer with one and fanciedthe look of it! This is a fairly well set-up hole, we have acquired quitea few boxes for storing our gear in. By the look of the opened tins nearthe mug, we have recently bought some luxuries from the canteen service. The white marks behind us were from liberal squirts of a DDT bomb. Therodents carried fleas which in turn carried a very lethal disease, knownto us as Manchurian fever. (mostly fatal) On two occasions we relieved avery unhygienic battalion, who left the area filthy and alive with ratsand mice. Unburied bodies outside the wire in one place as well, whichmeant a lot of work just to clean up the place and make it disease free. |
