Now these Centurion tanks occasionally parked on our hill were a mixed blessing. They were very handy for nailing targets, such as enemy bunkers. However they invariably drew return fire from Charlie when they opened up, that didn't bother the Tankies much. It was a bloody nuisance to the diggers dug in around that area though, we had no armor plate covering the pits, trenches and foxholes. Our name for those lads was 'Crab-drawers'. |
