The Breakthrough at Inchon

Bombardment of Red Beach

Bombardment of Red Beach, 9/50

5th Marines soon will assault to take its Cemetery Hill.

Photo taken from Wolmi-do, captured earlier that morning by 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines. 3/5 held the island alone while the fleet moved back out of the harbor during the low tide period at which time the impassible mud flats were exposed. Note the causeway between Wolmi and Inchon in right of photo.

All Inchon seems to be burning behind the beach area, but in fact most of the city was undamaged.
